John C. Mccullum "Slick Rick"

Mr. John C. McCullum known as "Slick Rick" passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021, at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 51 years. Rick was born June 30, 1970, in Greenville, Mississippi to Betty King and Henry Lee King Jr.

John moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1974. He attended Saginaw Public Schools and was a graduate of Saginaw High School, Class of ’88. Rick continued his education at Delta Community College where he played basketball for the Delta Pioneers. He was employed at Betsy’s Place in Caro, Michigan, working with youth as a direct care worker until his health declined. John attended Galilee Baptist Church as a child, and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was family-oriented, and especially loved spending time with his children and other family.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Jennifer Hinojosa; mother, Betty King; two sons, Jackie and Khalil McCullum; one daughter, Christina Hinojosa; two stepsons, Gabe and Adrian Hinojosa; three brothers, Michael, Colanders, and Henry King; one sister, Teyanna King; grandfather, John “June” McCullum Sr.; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, including special cousins, Charles Johnson, Chris Griffin, Terry Addison, and Cary Durham; special friends, Charlie Logan, Andre Beverly, JoAnn Davenport, Otis Ray, Charles Frazier and Mandrake Youngblood.

John was preceded in death by his father, Henry King Jr., brother, Jackie King, grandparents, Louise McCullum, Mr. and Mrs. Henry King, nephew, Jerome Pringle, uncles, Jackie Ray McCullum, and Gary Griffin, and special cousins, Louis Addison Jr. and Robert Taylor.
