John Louis Gauldin (Lansing)

September 18, 1944 — October 28, 2020

Mr. John Louis Gauldin passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at Sparrow Health Systems - Lansing Campus in Lansing, Michigan. Age 76 years. He was born September 18, 1944, in Dyersburg, Tennessee; the third child of Theodore and Hattie Gauldin.

He graduated from Bruce High School in 1963. After graduating, he attended Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee graduating in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. He also attended Lansing Community College graduating with an Associated Degree in Criminal Justice and took classes at Michigan State University. He served in the United States Army for 4 years. He moved to Lansing, Michigan after his honorable discharge from the Army. He united in holy matrimony with Wauleen Thomas in 1973. From this union, two children were produced, Schimica Jurella and Naomi Lakeya.

He started working in the Michigan Department of Corrections as a corrections officer in 1980. He retired as a Sargent after 23 years of service. While retired, he loved fishing, hunting, weight lifting, watching The Price is Right, Perry Mason, ID Network, NBA, NFL, MLB, MSU football and basketball games, eating Southern cuisine, Popeye’s chicken, drinking apple cider and beer as well as spending time with his family. He lived his life on his own terms. He will be missed by many.

John leaves to cherish his memory 2 daughters Schimica Gauldin of Baltimore, Maryland and Naomi (Jonathan) Gauldin of Lansing, Michigan; granddaughter, Arielle of Baltimore, Maryland and furry grandson, Lightning of Baltimore, Maryland; 2 sisters, Rachel Thompson and Vernice Salter of Lansing, Michigan; 2 brothers, Joe Willie (Louise) Gauldin and Willie Gauldin of Dyersburg, Tennessee; 4 nieces, Betty McKinstry, Annette Evans, Jeanette Thompson, Mattie (Henry) Thompson-Major and Martha Talison all of Lansing, Michigan; 3 nephews, Joe (Gwen) Thompson of Memphis, Tennessee; Billy Ray (Shirley) of Lansing, Michigan and Steven Gauldin of Dyersburg, Tennessee: special cousin, Charles Hamilton of Chicago, Illinois and a special friend, Juanita Harper of Lansing, Michigan as well as other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and his furry grandson, Ace John Gauldin.
