John Newton

June 16, 1954 — June 21, 2021

John Edward Newton was born on June 16, 1954 in Panola, Alabama, Sumpter County to Theodis and Flowreader Newton. He confessed Christ at an early age.

John moved to Saginaw in 1966 and graduated from Saginaw High School, Class of 1972. He proudly set the example for future generations to obtain higher education. He attended the University of Michigan and was a proud Wolverine. As a first generation college student, he set the example of achievement at the collegiate level and beyond. He studied political science and took a stand for all human rights.

His ambitions led him to enlist in the U.S. Navy and he served as a medic. He was very patriotic. His favorite pastime was watching the news: CNN, MSNBC, HLN, Fox News. Any and all news held his attention. He loved learning and teaching. John Edward was a caring and giving person who demonstrated great resilience.

He leaves to cherish his memory six siblings, Bernice Little, Homer Newton, both of Saginaw, Michigan, Floria (Perry) Williams, Chicago, Illinois, Betty (Sylvester) Harris, Conyers, Georgia, Lonnie (Georgia) Newton, Saginaw, Michigan, Lorenzo (Jean) Newton, Chicago, Illinois; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Theodis and Flowreader Newton; six sisters, Bertha Walker, Cora Mae Oliver, Beatrice Williams, Odessa Wilson, Rosetta Billings, Britistine Doty; four brothers, Theodis Jr., John Robert, Henry and Aubry Newton.
