Mr. John Sharper departed this earthly life on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the age of 65 years. He was born January 29, 1953 in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of Mattie Rivers and Frank Sharper.
John was a lifelong resident of Saginaw, Michigan. He attended Saginaw Public Schools. Affectionately known as “Johnny”, he was a loyal friend to many. In 1996, he joined Phyllis Thompson in holy matrimony. She survives him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. John enjoyed sports, playing chess and spending time with his friends and family. He especially enjoyed singing. John was a dedicated member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Vincent McMillon, where he was a member of the Unity Choir. John’s laughter and funny humor will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Phyllis Sharper; one daughter, Yondina (Willie) Jenkins; one son, Anthony (Amy) Phillips; three grandchildren, Demanti Phillips, Howard and Anthony Ray; three sisters, Elvia Mills, Joyce (Eddie) Jones, Carol (Robert) Kelly; two brothers, William (Alma) Duke, Randall Rivers; mother-in-law, Pecola Thompson; sister-in-law, Gwendolyn (Vincent) McMillon; several nieces and nephews; special cousins, Ollie Ruth Sharper and Reverend Gwendolyn Sharper Hatter; many other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Mattie Orr; father, Frank Sharper; stepfather, Albert Orr; brother, Keith Richardson; cousin, Howard Sharper, Jr.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to Pastor Vincent McMillon and the St. Paul Baptist Church family, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel and everyone who offered kind words, prayers and condolences.
