Johney Nelson Jr.

Mr. Johney Nelson Jr. entered into eternal rest Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Lutheran Hospital Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana following a sudden illness. He was born to the late Johney Nelson Sr. and Evelyn Nelson Neely in Saginaw, Michigan on February 13, 1953.
Johney was a graduate of Buena Vista High School and Saginaw Valley State University. He was employed at General Motors Corporation and was a member of UAW Local 2209 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Johney had a love for music. He served in the music ministry at several churches in the Saginaw area including Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Truevine Baptist Church, Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church and his home church, Bethel AME Church, under leadership of Rev. H. C. Huggins.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two sisters, Alicia Ann Nelson of Saginaw, Michigan and Vickie Neely of Grand Rapids, Michigan; one niece, McKeyia Neely; three great-nieces, Niasia and Aija Howell of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Janie Hood of Novi, Michigan; four nephews, Latrale (DeAnn) Nelson, Latrale Nelson Jr., DeAngelo Nelson and Torry Nelson; one great-aunt, Willie Mae Bolden of Flint, Michigan two uncles, Alfred (Arnetha) Nelson of Saginaw, Michigan, Joe (Pearl) Nelson of Stone Mountain, Georgia; cousins, Nadine Ward, Mamie Short, Leonza Porter, Ruby Faith Clark and Frances Carter, all of Saginaw, Michigan; special friends, Valarie Johnson, Gracie Witherspoon, Carl Mosley, Linda Suggs and Lorna Burks.
Johney was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Nelson-Neely, father, Johney Nelson Sr., brother, Charles Nelson, and his nephew, Nathaniel Nelson.
The family extends special thanks to the staff at Lutheran Hospital, Ivan E. Phillips and the staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel, Pastor P. David Saunders and the Bethel AME Church family.
