Johnnie "George" Harris

December 18, 1940 — November 1, 2022

Mr. Johnnie "George" Harris passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, in Louisville, Kentucky. Age 81 years. Johnnie was born December 18, 1940, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Calvin and Alberta Harris.

Johnnie, a United States Air Force Veteran, was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan. He was a member of Refreshing Life Ministries under the leadership of Superintendent Edward Jones. Johnnie retired from the Central Foundry Division of General Motors after many years of dedicated service. He was affiliated with UAW Local 455. Johnnie enjoyed fishing, reading, cars, jazz, and science fiction movies. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Johnnie was a loving father and husband who loved to laugh. He offered dry humor and sarcasm daily with a grin. He talked endlessly about anything if you would listen. Johnnie knew everyone that passed by in a car or walking. He had endless greetings and history for every stranger he encountered; somehow, he knew a little about everyone. Johnnie was loved by the kids in the neighborhood as “Mr. George.”

Johnnie leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Michael Demetrius and Mark Anthony Harris; grandchildren, DeKandis Robinson, Ypsilanti, Michigan, Micah Harris, Jayden Harris, Michael Harris, all of Louisville, Kentucky, Demetrius Jones, Arkansas, Sydney Zienta, Lansing, Michigan, Eboni Neal, Terrace Sargent, Mya Harris, Kimari Harris, and Kailoni Harris, all of Detroit, Michigan; five great-grandchildren, Anyhia Davis, Brindley Sargent, Dimitrius, DeMarkcuz, and Damier Jones; six nieces, Audroinia Hawkins, Tonya Lewis, Marlo Cooperwood, Samantha Jax, Arnita Fowlks, and Iylean Harris; five nephews, Lamar Fowlks, Lloyd, Jarvis, and Quincey Demery, and Anthony Ware; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Lewis.

Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Gene Harris, and his brother, Alvin Harris.
