Johnnie "Uncle Bobby" Jordan (Lansing)

June 30, 1950 — December 13, 2020

Mr. Johnnie Lee Jordan, AKA “Uncle Bobby” passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Age 70 years. He was one of 11 children born to his loving parents, Willie Ed and Lucille Duncan Jordan. Johnnie was born in Macon, Georgia on June 30, 1950.

He graduated from Willingham High School in 1969. Although he lived in Brooklyn, New York for a while; a move to Detroit, Michigan would secure stable employment for Johnnie at General Plating LLC until he retired. Ultimately the Motor City would give Johnnie another blessing, (a chance meeting on a city bus) where he would meet and fall in love with Gloria Jordan his beautiful wife of 36 years. The Jordan family later moved to Lansing, Michigan where they raised their only child, Sh’mone. Gloria’s side of the family could not have known that over the years “Uncle Bobby” would become a term of endearment to all that were fortunate enough to make his acquaintance.

Uncle Bobby wrote the book on everything you need to know about being ever so cool and smooth. He was an avid sports fan but he especially loved the J.W. Sexton High School Big Reds sports teams. If you wanted to see someone get animated while talking about sports just watch the Michigan State University football or basketball game with Uncle Bobby. At the bid whiz card table, Uncle Bobby would give some serious beat downs—he wouldn’t do it in silence! We had to suffer all his smack talking until we finally caught him cheating in Tennessee; that was the one and only time he had no words, just gut pounding laughter. Uncle Bobby loved this family without exception he cultivated us with his wisdom and never relinquished hope for a brighter day. He was a child of the Most High God, and wasn’t ashamed of the Gospel of Christ! Often he would remind us that God is the author and finisher of our faith; simply by saying, “God woke me up this morning so I’m good”. Uncle Bobby loved his home church family, Galilee Baptist Church, where for many years he was under the spiritual leadership of the late Reverend Kirkland D. Hall. Currently, he served un the leadership of Pastor Fred Galloway, a man of God. Uncle Bobby spent many days and nights sitting at the side of those family members who were in the hospital, his life experience taught him to take no opportunity for granted. Johnnie had great love for his mother, which would later speak to the character of the man that took such great loving care of his wife. Johnnie loved and adored every one of his siblings; and he made that very clear while the blood was yet running warm through his veins.

Johnnie leaves to carry on his legacy, his loving wife, Gloria; daughter, Sh’mone; devoted sisters, Willie Mae Jordan and Angela Gainey, both of Macon Georgia, Annie McGee, Detroit Michigan, and Rosa Blake, Brooklyn, New York; brothers, Willie James (Clara) Jordan, Sr., Macon, Georgia, Calvin (Tracy) Jordan, Detroit, Michigan; adorned niece, Destiny, and goddaughter, Tara; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including his childhood friends, Greg, Leon, and Stone Kendrick all of whom will be greatly missed him and affectingly referred to Uncle Bobby as “Wildman”.

Johnnie was proceeded in death by his infant son, Deandre Winston; parents, Wille Ed and Lucille Duncan Jordan; sisters, Zator, Louise, and Loretta Jordan; brothers, Eddie Jordan and Tollie Jordan.
