Johnny Ray Carter was born September 25, 1962 in Louisville, Mississippi to Johnny Mac Carter and Maggie Ann Hughes. From the sweet age of two years old, he was raised by Olin Sr. and Priscilla Carter. He was a long-term resident of Saginaw, Michigan until his passing.
He attended Saginaw Public Schools and graduated from Carrolton High School. After graduation, he went on to serve in the military for two years. Johnny Ray loved to cook and thought of himself as a Master Chef. As much as he loved to cook, he loved basketball and coaching even more. He was a community mentor for young men, teaching them lessons on and off the court. Every kid he encountered became his kid and he did whatever he could to help them. Johnny Ray also loved dogs and westerns. He was fun, silly, a jokester, the life of the party and could light up any room with his huge personality. He did not like sadness or drama and would try to cheer you up if he saw you down. A people watcher, Johnny Ray loved to sit outside on his porch for hours. He was a man of the people and his presence will be truly missed.
On Saturday, June 30, 2018, Johnny Ray transitioned from this life to the next. He went to meet his parents, Olin Carter, Sr., Johnny Mac Carter, Maggie Ann Hughes and brother, Olin Carter, Jr., who preceded him in death.
He leaves to celebrate his life wife, Barbara Carter; mother, Priscilla Carter; seven daughters; five sons; five sisters; four brothers; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and expressions of love and concern extended to them during this time of bereavement.
