Joseph Henderson

July 14, 1923 — April 29, 2014

Mr. Joseph Page Henderson passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Saginaw Geriatrics Home. Age 90 years. He was born July 17, 1923 in West Memphis, Arkansas to Minnie Mays-Parks and Tom Henderson.
After relocating to Saginaw, Michigan, Joseph began employment with General Motors. He retired after several years of faithful service. Joseph was a songwriter who wrote the theme song for the movie "Mahogany". He was also a professional boxer. Joseph enjoyed listening to Motown music and cruising around Ojibway Island Park. He especially loved spending time with his daughter and her siblings. Together they enjoyed going to carnivals, the zoo, circus and many other places. In his spare time he loved playing checkers, chess and dominoes, Joseph was a great man and an excellent father not only to his own children, but to other children as well. He would give his last to anyone in need. Joseph was someone many looked up to. He didnt take any nonsense. He would tell you off in a minute then act like it never happened in the next. Joseph was an honest man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Crystal (Eulis Jr.) Harris-Tolliver and Nataska (Darrell) Ashworth-White; stepchildren, Julishea Macon, Deondra, Debvanisha, Richie and Eddie Harris; several grandchildren; one sister, Erma Dennis; four nieces, Bernadette Tinsley, Gloria Sims, Nell Morris and Gail Hatfield; two nephews, Anton Parks and Freddy Wilson; many other relatives and friends including his very special friend, Berry Gordy Sr. and Gladys Townsel.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Minnie Mays-Parks and Tom Henderson, grandparents and four brothers, Fred Parks, Arthur, Robert and Rudolph Henderson.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Heartland Hospice, Saginaw Geriatrics Home, Covenant Specialty Select, Ivan E. Phillips and the staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel. A very special thank you to Gladys Townsel for the love she expressed in taking special care of our beloved Joseph.
