Joyce Ann Brewer West

Ms. Joyce Ann Brewer West departed this earthly life on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at her residence. Age 63 years. She was born September 27, 1950 in Florence, Alabama to William and Bessie Brewer.
Joyce was a lifelong resident of Saginaw, Michigan who was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School, attended Delta College and received a Doctorate in Theology. She was a member of Spiritual Israel Church under Elder Joseph Grace. Joyce was previously employed at Saginaw Geriatrics Nursing Home as a Nursing Assistant. She loved God and her family. Joyce enjoyed singing, cooking, dancing and going to Bingo. She was a happy, joyful peacemaker who always had open arms to everyone she came in contact with. Her presence will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Terrence (Cynthia) Brewer and Bakari West; five stepchildren, Vernon West, Cathy West, Roy West Jr., Steve West and Kealoni Bowie; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy J. Thomas, Marilyn A. (Charles) Ginn and Brycandes K. (Trevis) Ruffin; two brothers, William (Linda) Brewer and Steward Thompson; several nieces and nephews; aunts, Odessa Mangum, Bea Strong, Earlene Anderson, Pearl Wright, Ann, Beverly and Betty Jo Turner; one uncle, Robert Brewer; three sisters-in-law, Yvonne and Diane West, Dorothy (Jim) Jones; four brothers-in-law, Howard Thomas, Larry (JoAnn), Tyrone and Anthony West; her god sister, Ramona Rankins; many other relatives and friends including her special friends, Teresa Vaughn, Priscilla Franklin, Angela Duncan, Jeanette Dudley, Rosie Reed, Aleta Moses and Deatra Chapman.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, William L. and Bessie M. Brewer, husband, Roy L. West, one son, Diallo West, one sister, Wanta Atkins, mother and father-in-law, Lottie and Eddie West Jr., one sister-in-law, Eddie M. Smith, one brother-in-law, Eddie West Jr.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the Hospice nursing staff, Ivan E. Phillips and the staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel and a very special thanks to our friends, family and everyone who offered kind words, prayers and condolences.
