Juanita H. Flourry (Lansing)

October 31, 1930 — May 27, 2017

Mrs. Juanita Hazel Lee Flourry went home to be with the Lord May 27, 2017 in Lansing, Michigan. At the blessed age of 86 years old. She was born October 31, 1930 to Bluford Alexander and Francis Scipio in Woodson, Arkansas. Juanita was lovingly raised by her devoted maternal grandmother, Ella (Robinson) Hunter.



As a child, Juanita moved to Buffalo, New York, then later to Chicago, Illinois where she attended school. After school, Juanita moved back to Arkansas, where she met the love of her life, Wardell Flourry, whom she married on August 26, 1947 in Little Rock, Arkansas at First Baptist Church. Juanita and Wardell were married for 69 wonderful years! The couple eventually moved to Lansing, Michigan where they were blessed with three beautiful children, Caraletta, Wardell Jr., and Beauford.



Juanita united with Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E. Gladstone Scott. She was a beautiful, generous, loving lady, fully exemplifying the fruits of the spirits. She truly loved everyone she met. Juanita loved working for the church and taking care of her family. She sang in the church choir, worked in the summer Vacation Bible School, loved to garden, and cook.



Juanita earned a certificate as an Instructional Aide Assistant from Lansing Community College, which she was able to use in her career with the Lansing School District.



Juanita leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Wardell Flourry; her loving children, daughter, Caraletta (Ardell) Carson; son, Beauford (Marcel) Flourry; six grandchildren, Ardella (Bobby) Gillis, of Detroit, Michigan, Dierdra Dee (Flourry) Rembert, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Anthony J. Carson, Deon (Anglia) Jenkins, DeShara (David) Alvarado, Lessie Morrison Flourry, all of Lansing, Michigan; six great-grandchildren; twelve great great-grandchildren; one brother, Elijah (Van) Brown; two nieces, Carolyn Evers, special niece Nabenda Amunga; Nephews, Walter (Tonia) Hammock, Cecil (Cheryl) Hammock, Deric Hammock, Eric Hammock, and Chad Brown; one cousin, Ella Bea Surratt; two brother-in-laws, Adell (Dianne) Flourry, William (Ophelia) Flourry, many other relatives and friends.



She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Wardell Flourry, Jr., sisters, Bernice Scipio, Barbara Hammock, brother, James Shants.
