Karen Rogers Perkins

February 8, 1964 — December 20, 2021

Mrs. Karen Rogers Perkins transitioned from this world to her heavenly home on Monday, December 20, 2021. She was born February 08, 1964 in Marvell, Arkansas to the late Eddie C. Rogers, Sr. and Katherine Rogers Sample.

Karen migrated to Saginaw, Michigan with her family as a child, making her mark on everyone she encountered. Her grandfather, Tom, nicknamed her “Lil’ Gal” and her family kept it alive. She attended Buena Vista “BV” High School and was a member of the Soul Choir. As an adult in the community, many called her AUNTIE. Lil’ Gal was the glue that kept her family together. She called everyone near and far to keep in touch with family and friends.

Karen was our “MATRIARCH.”

Family was “everything” to Karen. She was a nurse to the sick, a counselor to the confused, and a shelter to those in a storm. Providing a homestyle meal was her trademark, and when in public, Karen couldn’t walk 2 ft without being stopped for a pleasant conversation. Everyone knew her and she was our very own “CELEBRITY.” Our Lil’ Gal.”

Karen accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Church of Christ, later uniting with House of Prayer Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Walter McCall. She touched the hearts of so many, and unforgettable memories are left behind with her loved ones.

Surviving Karen, are her husband of 20 years, John Perkins Sr.; seven sons: Kendrick Rogers, Kendrell Rogers, Kentrez Frazier, Amire Perkins, John (Bria) Perkins Jr., Johnathan Perkins, and Jerome (Kamari) Bibbs; three daughters: Tameka Perkins, Kiarra (Guy) Soloman,Sade (Larry) Austin; three sisters: Gerlene Rogers, Pamela Rogers Sample, Lawanda Rogers; seven brothers: Anthony Rogers, Aaron (Paula) Rogers, Eddie (Leslie) Rogers Jr., Lacy Rogers, Irie (Carolyn) Sample, Jimmie (Lisa) Taylor, and Marcus (Lodie) Rogers; eight sisters-in-law: Willie Mae (Leroy) Coleman, Mary Coleman, Catherine McCall, Sharon Perkins, Alice Arrington, Levon Bailey, Geraldine Coleman, Liz Dugan Rogers; one brother-In-law, Kenny Crawford.

Rogers Sr. and Katherine Rogers Sample; stepfather, Carter Sample; maternal grandparents, Tom and Idella Coleman; paternal grandparents, Clay and Virginia Rodgers; one brother, D’Angelo Rogers Suggs, and one sister, Yalita Rogers Crawford.
