Kathryn Humes

Mrs. Kathy Diane Humes was born and raised in Bay City, Michigan on August 31, 1952, to John Harry and Mary L. Donaldson. She passed away to be with the Lord at the age of 71 years on August 2nd at Bay Medical Care Facility in Essexville, Michigan.

In her early years, she was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and worked for General Motors and Bay Metro Transit Systems. She then changed her life and career to home health care, becoming a caretaker and stay-at-home mom. She dedicated her time to raising her son and daughter whom she had since they were little, Charlie Bassette Jr. and Amber Lowe, and her one and only biological daughter, Tara Magee who was her heart.

Her many hobbies and interests included going shopping, playing cards, going to the casino, singing, and most of all, going to bingo. She loved spending quality time with all of her children and especially her two granddaughters, Shanelle Allen and Liviana Elliott whom she loved dearly.

Kathryn, also known as “Diane,” was a very strong, kind-hearted and lovable woman. A devoted mother and grandmother, she would light up a room with her bright smile and loud voice and would keep you laughing with her great sense of humor. She had a heart of gold and thrived on helping others in any and every way possible.

Though she may have left us in the physical world, we carry her on in our hearts and our spirits, as her light shines through all of those who knew her and loved her. She will be greatly missed by all of her friends and family, children and grandchildren. 

She leaves to cherish her three children, Tara “TT” McGee and Charlie Bassett Jr. of Bay City, MI; Amber Lowe of Saginaw, MI; two granddaughters, Shanelle Allen and Liviana Elliott, both of Saginaw, MI; three brothers, Larry McGee and Harry Jerome Smith, both of Bay City, MI, and Ray Donaldson of Wisconsin; two nieces, Tiewanda Humes and Helen Bates of Grand Rapids, MI; five nephews, Marlon Humes of Grand Rapids, MI, Larry Humes and Melvin Brandon of Bay City, MI, and Bobby Brandon of Iowa City, Iowa, and Cedric McGee of Bay City, MI; cousins, Shanntel Donaldson of Grand Rapids, MI, Gregory Smith of Saginaw, MI, Michael Smith of  Flint, MI, and Fredrick Smith of  Illinois; she also leaves her great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her grandparents, Eugene Smith and Mary Alice Reed, and Mattie Donaldson; her parents, John Harry and Mary L. Donaldson; aunts, Beatrice Smith, Katherine Smith, and Addie May Steele; uncles, Bob Smith and Eugene Steele; and her niece, Tashawn Davis.
