Kay was born to the late John and Bertha Hall on February 11, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois, where she spent the earlier years of her life. She grew up as the youngest of six children and attended the Dunbar Vocational High School, also known as the Dunbar Vocational Career Academy. Kay's high school was named in honor of the African American Poet, novelist, and playwright Paul Laurence Dunbar. In 1995, she married and then later moved to Lansing, Michigan in the year 2000. In Lansing, Michigan, she attended Tabernacle of David Church for eleven years where she was faithfully served as a greeter, office worker, and was active in the choir.
For six years Kay worked at the Dakkota Integrated Systems as a factory worker. As her health began to fail, she was unable to continue working for the company. However, with her infectious personality, bubbly spirit and love for children she sought to further her education. As a result, she graduated in 2017 with an Associate’s Degree in Child Development.
Kay was a ball of charismatic energy. She loved going to plays, movies and most of all dancing. She was a no tolerance type of woman and kept it “100” and didn’t “Food stamp” anything (one of her famous sayings)!! Even in her death, she kept her children on their toes and did the imaginable by bringing the youngest 4 closer together!!
