Mr. Keith James Rhodes was born June 24, 1957 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of Robert James and Mattie Ruth Rhodes. He passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019.
Keith graduated from Huron High School in Ann Arbor, “Class of 1975.” After high school, he worked full-time in retail, and in 1988 became a volunteer firefighter for Scio Township in Ann Arbor. Keith volunteered for Scio Township until he accepted a full-time firefighter position with Buena Vista Fire Department in Saginaw, Michigan in 1991. He then moved from Ann Arbor to Saginaw (Buena Vista Township) and was employed with the BV Fire Department until 2001.
Keith loved being a firefighter and took great pride in his work. In 1992, he married his former wife, Yolanda, and together they raised four children. He loved the Lord and attended Saginaw’s Bethel A.M.E. Church on occasion but was not a member.
As a young man, Keith participated in the sport of weight lifting and competed professionally. Later, his interests turned to golfing and fishing, with fishing being his first love. Keith never passed up an opportunity to fish – even during the winter months. When he wasn’t fishing, he spent time with friends and family. Keith loved to laugh and have a good time, and was liked by everyone who knew him. He was a gentle man with a gentle spirit and that is how he will be remembered.
Keith was preceded in death by his mother, Mattie Rhodes.
He leaves to cherish precious memories his father, Robert James Rhodes; daughter, Shayla DeAsia Rhodes; son, Jason Alexander-Keith Rhodes; stepchildren, Wanda Regina Jones, Jonathan Le’Royce Jones; grandchildren, London Dixon, Kasper Lown, Amias Rhodes; sister, Karin (Darryl) Forte; niece, LaKeisha Rhodes; nephew, Darnell Forte; many other relatives and friends, including special friend Darnell (Don) Oglesby.
