Kenneth D. Greer (Lansing)

May 12, 1956 — July 3, 2022

"On the greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them". John 7:37-38” Kenneth D. Greer loved the sounds of flowing water; he became thirsty for that water that only God could give.

                                                    Obituary

Mr. Kenneth "Hipman" D. Greer made his transition from this life into eternity on Sunday, July 3, 2022, in Lansing, Michigan at Sparrow Hospice House of Mid-Michigan surrounded by loving caretakers at age 66 years. Kenneth D. Greer was born in Gary, Indiana on May 12, 1956. There were nine siblings, but he was the third son born to Lauderdale and Curtis Greer. He attended public schools in Gary, Indiana.

His sisters affectionately learned to call him, "Hipman" because he had a double hip replacement, Kenneth fell off a roof during one of his many jobs as a contract roofer while living in Coldwater, Mississippi. Kenneth was always willing to serve his family, I (Joyce Greer) remember while deplored in Afghanistan for one of my tours, Kenneth offered to stay in my home in Gulfport, Mississippi, along with our brother, Michael, and be the caretaker. He was a gifted painter, self-taught automobile mechanic and worked at various jobs when he moved to Los Angeles, California to live with a brother and his eldest sister.

Kenneth had an affectionate smile that could win the hearts of mainly his sisters. In June of 2008, Kenneth relocated to Lansing, Michigan to reunite with his sisters and brothers. Kenneth became the "Top" maintenance man at the Twin Oaks Senior Citizens Apartment complex here in Lansing, Michigan, working endless hours serving that community. Kenneth Darnell Greer followed in the footsteps of his father, Lauderdale Greer by serving for a brief time in the military; due to unfortunate circumstances, he was unable to fulfill his commitment of service to the United States Army.

Kenneth became active in serving them and any person who might need their car service, rides to the store, hospital, distributing food to senior citizens, and helping out at one of the local churches when his sisters would ask him. Whenever possible, he would attend church services at New Jerusalem Church under the leadership of Pastors Charles & Fran Bicy. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and participated in Saturday morning prayer hosted by one of his sisters, always excited to share any progress he was making concerning his health.

Kenneth was well aware of the total consequences regarding his own health issues, it was amazing that some of the last words spoken by him were rededicating his life to Christ and for that, we are excited, for we will see him again as our brother in Christ, WOW, God is faithful.

He leaves to cherish his memory four devoted sisters, Sharon (Kenneth Scott), Celestine (Preston) Starks, Bernetta (Theodore) Galloway, Joyce Ann Greer, sister-in-law, Patricia Greer; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and numerous friends including his significant other, Ms. Barbara Allen, and special friends including Kevin Mock.

Kenneth D. Greer is proceeded in death by his father and mother, Lauderdale, Sr. and Curtis Greer; 3 brothers, Lauderdale Greer Jr., Michael Greer, Dennis Greer, and sister, Carol J. Greer.
