Kirkland Washington 'Smooth'

Mr. Kirkland Washington "Smooth" passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at McLaren Bay Special Care in Bay City, Michigan. Age 59 years. He was born on September 24, 1957 in Saginaw, Michigan to George and Artie Washington.


Kirkland was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan and a graduate of Saginaw High School, Class of 1976. He also attended New Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Mr. Kirkland was employed by the Saginaw Board of Education, retiring in 2003 after 27 years of service. He was a member of UAW Local 517. Kirkland enjoyed wrestling, playing football, fishing and all sports. He will be missed by his two furry friends, Tiger and Maddie Bear, and by family and friends who loved him dearly.

He leaves to cherish loving memories his wife, Bettie Washington; two daughters, Lacretia Jones, and Tasha Sears, Saginaw, Michigan; two sons, Kendrick Miree, Florida, and Kirkland Washington, Jr., Saginaw, Michigan; one grandson, Elijah George Washington; two sisters, Jacqueline Washington and Loretta Buchanan; two brothers, Donald (Sherlene) Washington, Eldred (Lois) Washington; many nieces and nephews; one aunt, Margie McClain; one uncle, Dave Cook; one sister-in-law, Angie Payne; many cousins, other relatives and friends including a special niece, Zella Gaines, and special brother, Carl G. Maple.

Mr. Kirkland was preceded in death by his parents, George and Artie Washington; sister, Gwendolyn Hughes, and brother, Dr. William Payne.
