L Rose Carter (Lansing)

February 26, 1934 — April 23, 2022

Evangelist L Rose Carter passed away Saturday, April 23, 2022, at McLaren Greater Lansing, in Lansing, Michigan. Age 88 years. She was born February 26, 1934, in Coleanor, Alabama. The daughter of Reverend Lewis Simeon Mallisham and Leola Smith Mallisham.

Ms. Rose lived in Lansing, Michigan a city she loved to visit after her youngest daughter moved there over 20 years ago.  She attended Mt. Hope Church until her physical disabilities prevented her from doing so.  Miss Rose (as many people called her) received her B.A. in Social Work/Psychology and received a certificate in Pastoral Counseling.  Before moving to Michigan, she worked from her home in Alabama as an accomplished seamstress, designing and sewing apparel for entire wedding parties, upholstered furniture, made draperies, pillows and made all her children’s clothing. She was also a hairstylist, utilizing her knowledge from cosmetology school after leaving high school.  She eventually secured a position with the University of Alabama in their “Child Development daycare” department, working as a teacher assistant as well as driving the bus for the daycare. It was during this time that she met Kenneth Carter and they later married in 1972. In 1974, she was called into the ministry and was ordained in 1975, shortly after moving to Michigan with her new husband and her children from her previous marriage.  They settled in Pontiac, Michigan where she became very active in the community volunteering for FISH, Haven, Pontiac General Hospital as a chaplain and she taught Bible study classes from her home.  She would also feed her elderly and disabled neighbors some of her large home-cooked meals, coming from a large family herself (8 brothers & sisters) she never learned how to cook for a few!  She loved to entertain family and friends with her meals and was always willing to help anyone who had a need.  Above all, she loved the Lord and loved to sing praises to God.  She was very gentle and loving and was a true “prayer warrior” who was always ready to give an answer regarding the hope of eternal life with Christ, within her. As her health began to decline, she never stopped telling others about the goodness, grace, mercy, and love of Jesus. She would tell everyone who entered her presence: “GOD HAS BEEN SO GOOD TO ME!”

She leaves to cherish her memory 3 daughters, Debbie (Lawrence) Williams, Lynda (Glenn) Shaw, and Camellia Crowell; son, Reginald (Thelma) Crowell; grandchildren, Tracie Washington, Leilani Williams, and David-Michael Williams; Spiritual daughter, Dionne Green; sister, Emma Christine Williams; brother, James Morgan Mallisham; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Kenneth Carter; grandchild, Leola Rose Williams; parents, Reverend Lewis S. Mallisham and Leola Smith Mallisham; sisters, Jessie Lee Miller and Bessie Louise Turner; brothers, Thomas Mallisham, Lewis S. Mallisham, Jr. Joseph Mallisham, Martin Mallisham, and Reverend Abraham Mallisham; and first husband and her children’s father, Odis Crowell.
