Lannie James Green

July 12, 1937 — June 15, 2018

“If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.” These words were spoken often by Lannie Green. More than speaking these words, he lived them all his life.

Lannie James Green was born July 12, 1937 in Frogmore, Louisiana to Tom and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Green. He departed this life on June 15, 2018 at Covenant-Cooper Hospital.

He was educated in the Louisiana School System and graduated from Eula D. Britton High School, where he was a member of the basketball team. This is where he obtained the nickname “Pong.” After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Later, he attended Grambling State University and majored in Education. He treasured his education and the time he attended Grambling. He loved its historic football program and world-famous Tiger Marching Band.

Subsequently, he settled in Saginaw, Michigan and worked for the General Motors Corporation. He was an avid sports enthusiast with a fond affection for the Detroit Lions and Detroit Pistons. Lannie was a man of character, integrity, honor and purpose. He was a man of his word and taught his family to follow his example. He always said, “It is better for a person to be respected rather than liked because respect has to be earned.” Lannie was truly loved and respected by family, friends and loved ones.
