Deacon Larry Michael Wray was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He departed this world on Monday, January 29, 2024, at the age of 73 years old. His battle with medical issues in recent years revealed his courage and strong faith in God. Larry was born Wednesday, November 8, 1950, in Covington, Tennessee. Affectionally called “Mike” by family, he was the second child born to Henry and Geneva Wray. Their family eventually included 5 sons and 2 daughters. They settled in Lansing, Michigan, where the Lord continued to bless the young family.
As a young child, Larry accepted the Lord as his personal Savior. He was a member of Robinson Memorial Church of God in Christ of Lansing where he was actively involved. Larry is a graduate of the Lansing School District and Lansing Community College. He received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology. He also served as a member of the United States Air Force and earned an Honorable Discharge. Larry was an employee of General Motors Corporation, Lansing Fisher Body Plant, retiring in 1984.
On January 28, 1974, he united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Debra Joann Jones and was married 50 years, until his death. The young couple joined Union Missionary Baptist Church and became active participants in the church ministries. Larry loved things that stimulated his mind such as landscaping, building things with his hands, Jeopardy, crossword puzzles, studying the Bible, Mission, teaching Sunday School, cooking and baking RED Velvet cakes.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Debra Joann Wray; 2 daughters, Tymecka Wray and Christina (Richard) McMillan; 3 grandchildren, Jaden Talil Wilson, Redford, Michigan, Kayla Joy McMillan and Cameron Neiko McMillan, Newport News, Virginia; sister, Marsha (Reggie) George; 3 brothers, Henry Wray, Jr., Stanley (JoAnn) Wray, and Terry (Donna) Wray; father-in-law, Charlie Joe Jones; 2 sisters-in-law, Denise Turner and Cheryl Jones; brothers-in-law, Jeff Sweeney and Derrick Jones; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Wray, Sr. and Geneva Wray; grandparents, Drucilla Howard and Lee D. Heaston, Sr.; sister, Brenda Sweeney, and brother, Gary Wray, Sr.
