Larry Mixon, Sr.

Mr. Larry Mixon Sr. passed away, on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at his residence in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 67 years. He was born August 27, 1956, to J. D. Ingram and Everlyn Mixon in Bluff City, Arkansas.

Larry was raised by his grandparents, Arlice, and Eller Lue Mixon, before moving to Saginaw, Michigan at age 9. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Union Grove Baptist Church, in Bluff City, Arkansas.

Larry was employed with the City of Saginaw as a Public Service Worker in the Parks and Grounds department and was there for over 25 years. He was a hardworking, family man who rarely missed work. On any given day, you could find Larry riding a lawnmower in town waving to cars as they honked and drove by.

Larry was a quiet man with a big heart. He built a life with Yolonda, who was the love of his life. They were married for 28 years, and their love story spans over four decades. He was a homebody who enjoyed the comforts of his own home, watching sports, western movies, and playing cards. He was also the grill master of the family and had passed the grill torch on to his youngest son, LaVail.

Larry loved nothing more than spending time with family. He loved his five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and he had a special bond with his two grandsons, LaQuarius and Lavail Jr.

Larry leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Yolonda Mixon; one son, La’Vail (Amber) Mixon Sr, grandchildren, Christiana Carrisal-Lester, Saginaw, Michigan, LaQuarius and LaQuan Mixon, Houston, Texas, LaVaiya and La’Vail Mixon Jr., Saginaw, Michigan; great-grandchildren, Kayden Doster, Kei’lani Whitehead Saginaw, Michigan; one brother, Leon Mixon and one sister, Teresa Mixon-Martin both of Saginaw, Michigan; four nephews, Terrance ( Latrice) Jordan, Afton Jordan, Quan Studs of Columbia Georgia and DeAmontae (Marcella) Mixon of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; three nieces, Keyvia Mixon, Treshon Howard, and Lauryn Martin; one aunt, Earlene Shephard, Saginaw, Michigan; one uncle, Don Mixon, Bluff City, Arkansas; Sonja Carrisal, the mother of his four grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn and Gwendolyn Lindsey both of Saginaw, Michigan; five brothers-in-law, John Jr., Donald Sr., Ulish Lindsey, Saginaw, Michigan, Kenneth (Sarah) Lindsey Sr., Hammond Louisiana, and Johnnie Jackson Sr., Saginaw, Michigan. Larry also leaves a host of other relatives and friends that were near and dear to his heart.

Larry was preceded in death by his father J.D. Ingram and mother Everlyn Mixon; son, Larry Mixon Jr; brother, Nathaniel Mixon, grandson, Larry Mixon III, uncles James L., and Michael Mixon, aunt, Reacie Mae Haynie, sister-in-law, Linda Jackson, and brother-in-law, Andre Lindsey Sr.
