Mr. Lawrence Knox passed away August 12, 2015 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan at the age of 80 years. He was born September 12, 1934 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Sam Stewart and Thelmar Knox.
Lawrence grew up on Sheds Plantation. Due to visual impairment, he retired early. Before the loss of his eyesight, Lawrence enjoyed fishing, softball, listening to music on radio and watching television. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Nathaniel Whitt. Despite his disability, Lawrence enjoyed his family to the fullest and always found comfort in his surroundings. In using one of his most notable terms, we can now say that he is truly alright.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one sister, Mary Ella (Roy) Allen of Los Angeles, California; brother-in-law, James Davis Jr. of Lansing, Michigan; seven nieces, Priscilla Martin, Climmie Martin, and Barbara Martin of Lansing, Michigan, Mary Martin of Tennessee, Debra Martin of North Carolina, and Regina Allen of California; four nephews, Stephen (Dorothy) Martin, W.D. (Betty) Martin, and Rubin Butler, all of Lansing, Michigan, and Troy Allen of Los Angeles, California; a host of other relatives and friends, including a special friend, Victoria Brown.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Stewart and Thelmar Knox, sisters, Mary Martin and Lucy Davis of Lansing, Michigan, nephew, Vernon Knox, three aunts, Mary James, Lela Lewis and Charlesetta Knox, three uncles, Ketter Knox, Simon Knox and Ceola Knox, and one brother-in-law, W. D. Martin.
The family would like to express special thanks to everyone for your expressions of love, kindness and sympathy. They will be among our most cherished memories. God bless and keep you all.
