Lemartis Matthews

April 10, 1938 — December 10, 2011

Ms. Lemartis Matthews (Tiny) went home to be with the Lord Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Covenant Healthcare- Cooper. Age 73 years. She was born April 10, 1938 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Leroy Matthews and Lillian Long. Lemartis came to Saginaw, Michigan in 1968 from Lambert, Mississippi. She became a member of New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church the leadership of Pastors Johnnie and Bertha Goodman where she was a faithful member until her health changed. Lemartis loved the Lord and was always a warm hearted and giving person to anyone she knew. She loved playing bingo, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She had been ill for a few years and the Lord saw that she was getting tired and He dispatched an Angel from Heaven and the Angel said Lemartis your getting tired, you fought a good fight, now come on home and take your rest.
She is survived by the love of her life of 29 years, Mr. King David Hawkins; one sister, Maxine (Fred) Caver; 8 children, Leslie (Roosevelt), Saginaw, Michigan, Charles (Asia), Kalamazoo, Michigan, Helen (Albert), Saginaw, Michigan, Alonzo (Cometrice), Flint, Michigan, Alfed, Ed, Toinette (John), and Tara Ingram all of Saginaw, Michigan; 22 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews and friends. She also had one god-daughter, Tiana Watson. The family would like to thank her special friend, Minnie Cooper who was always there for her and dear friend, Alma C. Hoosier, including , Melinda Mason and Renee Williamson of At Home Care For You for all the support and care they added to her life.
Lemartis was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Alpha Lee Moore and Hattie Agnew; step-son, Eugene Ingram and grandchildren, Desire and Azaan Ingram.
