Ms. Lenore “Jackie” Vernice Bullock passed Friday, April 2, 2021, at her residence in Lansing, Michigan. Age 64 years. She was born on August 25, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, to Warcester and Pauline Bullock. She was named for her maternal grandmother, Leora; however, her father affectionately nicknamed her “Jackie”, which carried over to all facets of her life.
The youngest of seven children, Jackie’s siblings took extra special care of her. As a child, she and her family attended Canaan Baptist Church. Educated in Detroit Public Schools, Jackie was an honor roll student and actively engaged in a range of extracurricular activities, such as field hockey, band, dance, and cheerleading, even serving as captain of the squad. She was a social butterfly, and throughout her youth, she developed many valuable friendships. Lauded for her fearlessness, fairness, and honesty, Jackie earned her classmates’ respect and performed in various student leadership roles. After graduating from Mackenzie High School in 1974, she attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
While residing in Lansing, Jackie was employed with General Motors. She also worked at St. John’s Hospital in Detroit. Jackie’s talent and creativity manifested into a passion for cosmetology, where she participated in the Virginia Farrell Beauty School program. There, she honed her skills in hair care and kept herself up to date on the latest hairstyle trends.
Jackie possessed a caring, empathetic spirit and always maintained a positive outlook. She enjoyed laughing, telling stories, and watching cowboy pictures. She reveled in her role as an aunt, hosting sleepover pizza parties for her nieces and nephews, spoiling them with gifts, and always sharing an encouraging word.
Jackie’s most important role, however, was that of mother to her two beautiful children, whom she loved fiercely and unconditionally. She valued and encouraged their individuality and ensured they received an exceptional education through any means necessary, engaging with school officials, taking multiple buses across town, and making sacrifices. She was also a doting grandmother that thoroughly enjoyed the quality time she spent with her grandchildren. She kept up with them with an endless amount of energy, sharing her love of fashion with her granddaughter while making indoor forts and playing games of make-believe with her grandson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her two children, Jereny (ChaDorea) Robinson of Lansing, Michigan and Jalisa Robinson of Seoul, South Korea; grandchildren, Jereny II and Jakya; sisters, Dorothy (James) Miles of Temescal Valley, California, Jennie Moore of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Delores Scruggs and Diane Bullock of Detroit, Michigan; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
Jackie is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Joyce Nicholson and Elvin Bullock, and her niece, Nicolette Alexander.
