Our beloved father, son and brother, Leslie McKnight, Sr., passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2019, following a brief illness. He was born April 24, 1969 in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of Christine Scruggs and Robert Wilbert.
In his youth, Leslie was baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church. He attended Salina Elementary, Webber Junior High, and Saginaw High School, where he graduated with the “Class of 1988.” As a youngster, he played basketball and was a member of one of Saginaw’s award-winning AAU basketball teams.
Leslie was employed by McDonald’s for twenty-seven years. He worked several years at the N. Michigan Street restaurant and later at the Bay Road location. He was fondly regarded by both his coworkers and managers.
An avid fisherman, Leslie would not miss a chance to get out on the water. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time relaxing “under the tree” with his buddies. Forever an athlete at heart, Leslie remained a true fan of basketball and football throughout his life. He was known for his bright smile and infectious sense of humor, and he will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Leslie was preceded in death by his father, Robert Wilbert; grandparents, Antwine and Adell McKnight; niece, Leea Jamerson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his only son, Leslie R. Jr. (Hadassah) McKnight; mother, Christine Scruggs; sister, Uzena (BaQui) McKnight; brothers, Robert Jamerson, Sr., Terrell Cannon, Sr.; nieces, Princess-Zjah’nae McKnight, Brittnie Cannon, Brea Box; nephews, Prince-Ziyaire McKnight, Robert Jamerson, Jr., Childress Cannon, Terrell Cannon II; aunts, Shirlee McKnight, Carrie Townsend, Eva Wilbert, Veronica Wilbert; uncles, Thomas and Craig Wilbert; great-uncles, Joseph and Biegia McKnight; cousins, Sophina, Ajia, Treveon, Joseph McKnight, Samantha, Deon Sr., Deon Jr., Sophina Jones, Steven Sr., Steven Jr., Sa’Mya, Sa’Mariya Winters; many other relatives and friends, including special friends Faye and Brittany Burt, Eddie Isom, Roxie Ford, the Reid Family, Reginald Robinson, Sandie Rozier and Family.
