Mr. Levi Harrison Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born May 15, 1921 in Wisner, Arkansas to James Henry Harrison and Bobbi Enoch.
Mr. Harrison was a Sunday school teacher at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church for over forty years. He then moved his membership to New Life Ministries, where he was under the leadership of Pastor Craig Tatum and served as a deacon. He was an active member of the Saginaw Valley District Association and the Wolverine State Congress. He was the oldest living Deacon in the city of Saginaw.
Mr. Harrison loved the Lord, fishing, baseball, and reading his bible. He knew his bible well and could tell you where to find anything in it. Dad loved playing dominoes and he’d play anybody who came to visit him. He also had a great sense of humor and could make your stomach hurt laughing at his jokes. His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren knew he was serious about two things: church and school. No excuses, you’re going! He was our personal prayer warrior and even prayed in his sleep.
Mr. Harrison’s life was an example for many and his walk with God inspired many to accept Christ into their lives. His home was a sort of halfway house for many people who came from the South seeking better opportunities. He worked to support them while his wife took care of the home. At one time, thirteen people lived in his four-bedroom home.
Dad taught us how to live and he showed us how to die. He walked upright and earned respect by simply walking with God and living a life of integrity. He was a man that didn’t just talk to hear himself talk. However, when the subject of God came up (in EVERY conversation he had), you could not get a word in edgewise. His love for God inspired the way he loved his wife, Curley Mae. He was devoted to her and spent 66 years of wedded bliss with her. Their life together created a legacy of love and faith that will forever be a testament to their union.
Dad will sincerely be missed by his family whom he loved so dearly. He not only told us he loved us but we felt his love daily. His love, humor, and advice are simply irreplaceable. He has raised not only his own children, but also many of his grandchildren and been a father figure to so many others. He has left us with legacy of love, family and faith in God.
He leaves to cherish loving memories with his four sons, LeRoy Sr. (Mary), Levi Jr. (Geneva), Reverend Jimmie Lee Sr., and Edward Sr. (Carmen) Harrison., all of Saginaw, Michigan; four daughters, Mary Carter, Nashville, Tennessee, Deborah Blanks, Saginaw, Michigan, Vivian (Ronald) Samuel, Nashville, Tennessee, Audrey Harrison, Saginaw Michigan; three grandchildren raised as his own, James Sr. (MeShawn) Harrison, Knoxville, Tennessee, Dana Harrison, Cleveland, Ohio, and Davana Harrison, Saginaw, Michigan; an additional thirty-one grandchildren; sixty-seven great-grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law Sammie Lee Byrd; nephews, Tyrone Harris, Lawrence Sr. (Geraldine) Russell, Jerry Russell, Alvin Jones, Jessie James Jones; nieces, Minnie Russell, Helen (James) Weems, Lexie (Phillip) Bosquett, Jean (Godfrey) Ellis, Barbara Ann (Lee) Willette; godchildren, Reverend Roosevelt Mosley, Jr., Chantel (Gary) Oliver, Carl Everett, Michelle Hill, Braxton Williams; special friends, Pastor William (Charese) Hunt, Roy and Dorothy Gaines, Relinda Bradley, Rosetta Screws, Delores Carter, and William and Celestine Simmons.
