Lillian Couthen (Lansing)

Mrs. Lillian Norveda Couthen passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Henry Ford Hospital-Detroit in Detroit, Michigan. Age 76 years. She was born Thursday, July 10, 1947, in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Equator Williams and Milton McClain.


Lillian was raised in Chicago, Illinois, where she graduated high school. She moved back to Lansing as a young adult. She was a longtime member of Galilee Baptist Church. Lillian served in several ministries at the church including the Pastor Aide, greeter, and the mission society. She retired from the Waverly School District. After retirement Lillian enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and needle point. Lillian enjoyed all types of music, especially the Mississippi Mass Choir. She enjoyed being around family and she loved everyone.


She leaves to cherish her memory 2 daughters, Lonya Crockette and Michelle Couthen; 2 sons, Steven (Ada) Couthen and Robert (Angela Waugh) Couthen; stepchildren, Arthur (Mable) Couthen, Alphonso (Tonia) Council, , Larry (Kim) Couthen, Greg Couthen, Carey Couthen, Dessie “Nene” Couthen, Diane Couthen, and Elaine Couthen; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Odessa West, Carolyn Charles, and Wilma (John) Rhodes; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Couthen; daughter, Ayten Crockette; grandson, Marcus Jenks; great-grandson, Brandon Kemp; parents; and brother, Theophilus Williams, Jr.,
