Our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend passed away quietly on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw, Michigan. Lillie Mae (Stokes) Dawkins was born May 25, 1930 in Headland, Alabama to Rance Stokes and Minnie Bell Tiller.

Lillie married Clyde Dawkins and to their union, seven children were born. They had five sons and two daughters: Tommy, J.C., Margaret, Terry, Carriette, Donzell and Larry.

Lillie was a woman of the people. She didn’t meet strangers and she treated you like she always knew you. She was a praying woman and faithful member of Candlelight Baptist Church, where she served as an usher, on the mother board and the Golden Age Girls.

Lillie was preceded in death by four sons, Tommy, J.C., Terry and Larry; daughter, Carriette; granddaughter, Liltasha Nelson; grandsons, Louis McGee Jr., Gregory Whitehead; parents, Rance Stokes and Minnie Bell Tiller; one sister, Mary Alice; three brothers, William Stokes, Grover Stokes, Hastel Williams; special niece, Queen Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Donzell (Kay) Dawkins; one daughter, Margaret (Louis) McGee; grandchildren, Deshay, Anthony, Linda, Demarias, John, Felicia, Tonya, Terry, Andre, Terry Jr., Donzell Jr., Russhonia; 29 great-grandchildren; 42 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other loved ones in California, Headland, Alabama and Vero Beach, Florida.

We are going to miss Granny Mae but we have our memory of a wonderful mom, grandmother and friend. She will always be in our hearts and we will forever remember her big smile and her big heart for people.
