Mr. Lionel Wallace, Sr. passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at his residence in Southfield, Michigan. Age 86 years. Lionel was born May 20, 1937, in Tampa, Florida, to James Sr. and Cassie Bell Wallace.
Lionel was a resident of Vassar, Michigan. He was a member of Truevine Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Blanche Ely High School, Pompano Beach, Florida. Lionel received his certification as a Licensed Electrician from Vocational Electrician School, Flint, Michigan, and retired from General Motors Grey Iron Metal Casting Plant, Saginaw, Michigan. During his years at General Motors, Lionel was a very strong and active Shop Committeeman in the U.A.W. Local 668 where he advocated for workers' rights.
Lionel leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Lavonne R. Wallace, Santa Clara, California, Lavett M. Wallace, Lathrup Village, Michigan, and Lydia B. Wallace, Vassar, Michigan; one son, Lionel Jr. (Jennifer) Wallace; nine grandchildren, LeRon (Tanisha) Wallace, Saginaw, Michigan, Leonardo, and La'Naea Shacks, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Kawona Wallace, and Quantell Wallace, both of Griffin, Georgia, Lanier Todd, Jr., Deerfield Beach, Florida, Madison Wallace, Anastasia Wright, and Sydney Gonder, all of Ypsilanti, Michigan; a host of great-grandchildren; three brothers, James Jr., Jerome, and Ollie Wallace; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; two sisters-in-law, Bertha Mae Wallace, and Clara Wallace.
Lionel was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Wallace; son, Lanier T. Wallace, Sr.; parents, James Sr., and Cassie Bell Wallace; two sisters, Dorothy Wallace and Cassie Mae Aaron, and three brothers, Dallas, Joseph, and Thessalonian Wallace; one uncle, B.T. Wilson; mother and father-in-law, Floyd Sr. and Viola Madison; five sisters-in-law, Dorothy Williams, Mildred Bracy, Louise Green, Mildred Madison, and Viola B. Madison; seven brothers-in-law, Floyd Madison, Jr., William Madison, Will Green, Sampson Williams, Edward Madison, Berk Bracy, Sr., and James Bryant.
