Lois Buchanan

May 1, 1947 — May 30, 2024

Mrs. Lois Rochelle Buchanan passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024, in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 77 years. She was born May 1, 1947, in Saginaw, Michigan to Gillis Spikes and Joyce Tyree Maxey.

Mrs. Buchanan was a graduate of Emmanuel Arts High School in Los Angeles, California. She relocated to Saginaw, Michigan, and attended COC, currently Saginaw Career Complex, majoring in healthcare. Lois was a member of Unity of Faith Church in Flint, Michigan. She loved to read but especially enjoyed reading and studying the Bible. She was a great cook and had many gourmet recipes which she collected over the years. Lois also found joy in being with members of the church, but nothing could compare with the time she spent with her daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other members of her family. She was known for giving out her famous hugs to everyone. You could not help but smile when she came into a room. She just had that effect on people. Lois had a spirit of love, joy, and peace that will forever be cherished and missed. Mrs. Buchanan was employed at Saginaw Senior Care & Rehab Center for over 30 years and had just begun retirement when she became ill. Lois loved her job and was very passionate about caring for others. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Michael Buchanan, Saginaw, Michigan; her one and only daughter (as she referred to her), Anameshia Rochelle Collins; one stepdaughter, Pamalin Buchanan; grandchildren, Sha’Maris Buriel, Sha’Mona McKinney, and Sha’Malachi McKinney; step-grandchildren, LaTanya, Latasha, Shannon, and Shantail Buchanan, Ashley Patterson, and Lawrence Dunnaway; great-grandchildren, Shi’Loh and Noah Jackson, all of Saginaw, Michigan; one sister, Lynn Burkley, Mississippi; one brother, Chester Carter, Memphis, Tennessee; many other relatives and friends including a special niece and nephew, Barboletta Tyree Carter and Dedgrick Eugene Carter. Lois will continue to live on through her daughter and family who loved her dearly.

Mrs. Buchanan was preceded in death by her parents, Gillis Spikes and Joyce Maxey; grandson, Shaurome McKinney, Jr.; sister, Lathel Graves; brother, Richard Graves; stepson, Deleon Buchanan; stepdaughter, Shirley Dunnaway; step-grandsons, Kayvion Buchanan, and Brandon Patterson; nephews, Greg Times and Derek Wagner.
