Lonnie Mckissic, Sr. (Springport)

January 15, 1935 — November 3, 2023

Mr. Lonnie McKissic, Sr. passed away Friday, November 3, 2023. He was 88 years old. He was born Tuesday, January 15, 1935, in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He is the son of Robert and Myrtle McKissic.

Lonnie McKissic resided in Springport, Michigan. He was a member of Mt. Zion All Nations Bible Church where he served as a Chairman of the Board, Deacon, Choir Member, Vice-Chair of the Executive Council, and Elder. He was a wonderful husband, an awesome father, the best grandfather, and a loving brother. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening, playing pool, playing checkers and spending time with family and friends.

Lonnie and Odell married on August 29, 1952, in Arkansas and shortly after moved to Lansing, Michigan. They immediately started attending Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where they were members of the church for 69 years. Lonnie worked in construction and was a general contractor for over 60 years.

Lonnie was a strong pillar and a rock of the community, giving back, educating, being a mentor and father to many in the city of Lansing. He was a leader among leaders and a great man of faith. There are too many structures in the greater Lansing and surrounding areas that Lonnie built, to name them all. However, some of them include four churches. His legacy will live on through his kids, grandchildren, and others. The construction legacy will continue through his son, Michael McKissic.
