Lonnie Robert Newton, Sr.

Mr. Lonnie Robert Newton Sr., loving husband, devoted father and proud grandfather was born on August 15, 1956 in Panola, Alabama, Sumpter County. He was the youngest of seven children born to Theodis and Flowreader Newton.

Lonnie attended Livingston High School in Alabama, and Saginaw High School in Michigan, before graduating in 1975. Following the footsteps of his brothers, Lonnie enlisted in the US Navy upon graduating and was stationed at Naval Station Great Lakes Chicago in Lake County, Illinois where he studied electronics. In 1976, he met and married the love of his life, Mrs. Georgia Mae Newton. In 1977, they relocated to Saginaw, Michigan where they enjoyed 45 years of marriage.

In his pursuit of higher education, Lonnie attended Delta College in Saginaw, Michigan where he studied to become a technician. Upon completing the program, he gained employment with Dow Corning as a Lab Technician. He later joined SC Johnson in Bay City, Michigan, and retired as a Senior Manufacturing Technician in 2017 with 17 years of service. 

In his spare time, Lonnie enjoyed golfing, fishing, horse racing, and baseball.  However, his greatest joy in life was his family. He took great pride in supporting his children and grandchildren, from ceremonies to sporting events. He loved being around his sisters, brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews and simply spending time with all his family!

Lonnie was a man who confessed Christ and on the morning of June 15, 2022 at 5:14 a.m., he completed his work and went home to be with his Lord. He poured out all he had and fulfilled his purpose.

He leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life his loving wife, Georgia Mae Newton; four children,  Michael Seabrum of Atlanta, Georgia, Temieka (Earl) Shannon of Shawnee, Kansas, Lonnie (ReNisha) Newton Jr, and Latoya Newton of Saginaw, Michigan; thirteen grandchildren, Aaron Burton, Erika Goldsmith, Jamell Pyron, Gabrielle Works, Sharon Pascal, Michael Seabrum Jr, Tristan Shannon, Londyn Newton, Wilbert Hare, Wilson Hare, Lauryn Newton, Wilkin Hare, and Lonnie Newton III; four great-grandchildren; five siblings, Bernice Little, Columbia, South Carolina, Homer Newton, Saginaw, Michigan, Floria (Perry) Williams, Chicago, Illinois, Betty (Sylvester) Harris, Conyers, Georgia, Lorenzo (Jean) Newton, Chicago, Illinois; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Theodis and Flowreader Newton; six sisters, Bertha Walker, Cora Mae Oliver, Beatrice Williams, Odessa Wilson, Rosetta Billings, Britistine Doty; five brothers, John Edward Newton, Theodis Jr, John Robert, Henry Newton, and Aubrey Newton.
