Mr. Lorenzo Hughes Sr. departed this earthly life on Monday, August 3, 2015 at Heartland Healthcare Center. Age 97 years. He was born April 20, 1918 in Inverness, Mississippi to Annie and John Hughes.
Lorenzo retired from General Motors after several years of faithful service. He enjoyed playing cards, and fishing. Lorenzo loved his family and loved having gatherings at his home. He also loved helping people in the community. He was a great man whose presence will be truly missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory four daughters, Loreatha Hughes Martin, Sharon Hughes, Diane Hughes and Brenda Hughes McGee; four sons, Lorenzo Hughes Jr., Ricky Pittman, Davaria Brown and David Hughes; nineteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Louise Hughes, Florida Wesley, Mary Ellen Netall, Freddie Bee Sims; a very special, devoted and loving niece that he lived with and whom cared for him until his passing, Shirley Hughes; seven uncles and eight aunts; many other relatives and friends including his special friends, Roy Greer, Roger Jackson, DC, Tennessee and Vance Morris.
Lorenzo was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and John Hughes, grandparents, Ellison and Nelson Terrell, four brothers, Roosevelt, Eddie Lee, Mose Lee and William Hughes, one sister, Alberta Burt, one cousin, Ernie Terrell and one great-niece, Devia Fameka Hughes Bady.
The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Riverside Dialysis, the staff Heartland Healthcare, Robert Glover, Curtis Pendleton, Jarvis Burnside, Lula Lyons, MyAngel and MyKing Hughes, Fierra Hughes, Megan Trice and Shavonya Hughes.
