March 17, 1926 — April 27, 2012

Our beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, Lou Bertha Lance Washington passed away peacefully at her sons residence on April 27, 2012. Age 86 years. She was born March 17, 1926 in Winterville, Mississippi to Miller and Mary Lance.
Lou Bertha moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1944 where she met and married her late husband Frank B. Washington. In 1956 she attended MJ Murphy Beauty Academy and became a licensed beautician for 57 years retiring in 2010. She was very determined to finish high school. She enrolled at Ruben Daniels Adult Education Program where she received straight As and received her high school diploma in 1988. Lou Bertha was proud of her accomplishments. She was a member of the Up-to-date Beautician Club and the Eastern Star, Bright Stars Chapter #22 OES. She enjoyed working in her yard, sewing, fishing and reading her bible. Lou Bertha received Christ at an early age. She joined New Hope Baptist Church in 1959 under the leadership of Pastor Floyd A. Logan. She served as president of the senior usher board, motherboard and church secretary. She loved her church family very much.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her children, Cynthia K. Johnson, Maurice (Marie) Washington, both of Saginaw, Michigan, Bertha Mae Jackson, Washington, DC; one adopted son, Andrew (Mary) Williams, Grand Rapids, Michigan, two goddaughters, Lillie ONeal, Tara Henderson; seven grandchildren Maurice Washington Jr., Kendra Roscoe, Brenda Muhammad, Derrick Jackson, Eric Jackson, Shyann and Jamya Johnson; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Rose Prescott of Saginaw, Michigan, Vera James, Lillie Plowden both of Bishopville, South Carolina, Ada Bell Myer of New Jersey, New York and one aunt Leonza Porter of Saginaw, Michigan many other relatives and friends.
Lou Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Frank B. Washington; two sisters, Elizabeth Williams and Juanita Henderson; one grandson, Reginald D. Johnson; one great-grandson, Antoine Archibald Jr.
