Lucius H. Wafer, Jr. "Big Lou"

Our beloved, Lucius H. Wafer, Jr., also known as “Big Lou,” “Junie,” and “Big,” passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. Age 68. He was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on December 2, 1955, to Lucius H. Sr. and Helen Wafer, and stepfather, Willie Shipman. He attended Saginaw High School and was a member of the Class of 1975. Lucius was employed by the City of Saginaw as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He enjoyed fishing, boating, cruising, electronics, playing baseball, and spending time with family. His favorite sports teams were the Detroit Lions, Michigan Wolverines, and the Las Vegas Aces. While residing in Saginaw, Lucius loved playing baseball with the local teams including J’s Lounge, UAW 455, 668, and Michigan Bell. His presence will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Precious memories of Lucius will be forever cherished and honored by his devoted wife of 48 years, Shari of Las Vegas, Nevada; son, Demarco (Simone) Wafer of Saginaw, Michigan; daughter, Nicole Wafer of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren, Alexis Wafer, Marko Jr., D.J. and Amarri, all of Saginaw, Michigan; one brother, three sisters, three sisters-in-law: Allen (Linda) Wafer, Nashville, Tennessee,  Flora Brooks, Loretta Johnson (James Norwood), Angenel Akins-Shipman, Alice Akins, and Doris Wafer, all of Saginaw, Michigan; a bonus son, Eddie (Jeana) Thigpen, Saginaw, Michigan; sisters-in-law Dr. Debbie (Reverend Robert D.) Jones, Las Vegas, Nevada, Kimberley Gibson, Denver, Colorado, and Renee Rouster of Atlanta, Georgia; many nieces and nephews; many other relatives and long-time friends. He was loved by so many wonderful people, too numerous to list.

Lucius was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lucius Sr. and Helen Wafer, and stepfather, Willie Shipman; father and mother-in-law, William and Helen Gibson; two brothers, Ernest Wafer and Douglas Wafer; nephew, Deon Watson; two nieces, Teangela Wafer and Shantel Wafer; cousins, Walter Simmons, Ronald Dugan, Ivory Hatfield, and Chasity Jackson; great-nephew, Jayveon Gibson; great-niece, Kentera Wafer; two brothers-in-law, Larry Johnson, and William J. Gibson and wife, Annie Gibson.
