Lucy E Askew

September 21, 1933 — October 7, 2014

Our beloved mother Lucy Askew went to be with the Lord October 7, 2014. Lucy Ella Askew began her life?s journey on September 21, 1933 in Ripley, Tennessee. She moved to Lansing, Michigan at the age of eight years and was educated in Lansing schools. Lucy was married to James Askew and to this union three sons were born.
Lucy was a cashier at Kalusha?s convenience store and Fred & Bill?s grocery stores. Lucy devoted many years as a dedicated worker of the foster grandparent program. Lucy united with Union Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the Pastorate of Reverend Joel King. She was active in many ministries which included the Mother?s Board and Deaconess, Missions, Seniors, Choir and Kitchen. Lucy also enjoyed attending Sunday school.
Her love for people kept her active as a Capital Commons Senior Citizen volunteer with food distribution for the needy and entertaining residents with conversation as they sat in the complex lobby. Her claim was that she had lived there longer than any other resident and she earned the status of Queen!
She leaves to celebrate her life three sons, Charles (Loris), Clark (Debbie) and Wayne Askew; grandchildren, Angie and Reggie, Tony (Laura), Jason (Bambi), Nichole; sister, Ann Graves and a host of nieces , nephews, cousins and friends.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband James Askew, parents Ollie and Myrtle Whitethorn and sister Macy Josephine Allen.
