Ms. Luella Watson passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at her residence. Age 93 years. She was born July 26, 1921 in Greenville, Mississippi to Pearl Carr and Andrew Thomas.
Luella was a very compassionate woman who loved her family. She loved taking care of people who needed a place to stay. Luella enjoyed cooking, singing gospel songs and watching TV. She attended church at a young age. She also enjoyed telling stories of her childhood.
She leaves to cherish her wonderful memory six daughters, Brenda Cannon, Genevieve (Joe) Cannon Watts, Bertha (Johnnie) Redeemer, Denise Cannon, Christine (Michael) Nelson and Karen (Antwan) Mims; four sons, Isaiah Cannon, Pete (Janice) Cannon, Andrew Cannon and Albert Watson; four stepchildren, Shirley Louis, Percella Pryor, Velma (Willie) Moore and Ernest Tyler; one hundred twenty-five grandchildren; seventy-five great-grandchildren and twenty-five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ernestine Carr Whetstine; one brother, Henry Carr; several nieces including a special niece, Veronica Mabone; a goddaughter, Carla Pinson; many other relatives and friends.
Luella was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Augusta Watson, one daughter, Catherine Kelly, four sons, Johnny Hinds, Larry, Alvin and Calvin Cannon; one sister, Doretha Carr Rand, two brothers, John and Frank Carr, seven grandchildren, Erica Wickerson, Gregory Kelly, Sandra Kelly, Henry Hinds, Mark Watson, Willie Baniel Jr. and Helen Kelly; five great-grandchildren, Brian Kelly, Miracle Jackson, Jamie Jelks, Ste'Von Martell Goodman "Pooda" and Brentoya Kelly.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to her daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Michael Nelson, daughters, Bertha Redeemer and Karen Mims, who were her primary caregivers during her illness, granddaughters, Bridget Hinds, Alina Cannon, Sharrell Pruitt, LaKeisha Henry and Sade Staffney, who assisted in caring for Mother, also the staff of A&D Healthcare and Heartland Hospice, especially her nurse, Devica, LaToya from A&D, and Dr. Rama Mulpuri.
