Mrs. Lula B. Butler passed away Monday, June 8, 2015 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper at the age of 78 years. She was born July 17, 1936 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to Tommie and Annie Almond.
Lula was raised in Yazoo City, Mississippi, and moved to Saginaw, Michigan in 1956 to be with her siblings. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Ralph D. Butler, Sr. Lula was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and mentor to all. She was a caretaker to all who needed her. She cared for her daughter, Willie Mae, until her death. Lula was kind-hearted, wise, very honest and outspoken. She was full of advice, and would give it whether you wanted to hear it or not. She had a very colorful sense of humor and she enjoyed making people laugh. If she could, Lula helped everyone who asked. She cherished her family, especially her children and grandchildren, and she love family celebrations.
Mrs. Butler was a longtime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. She loved to fish, especially from her boat, every time she could. She was also a hunter of small game; however, her garden was her first love. She planted and harvested her garden every year. At the end of the season, Lula would make her famous soup from everything she grew in that garden. Lula also loved to make jelly and pear preserves. She loved her dogs and they loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Bertha (Don) Fabin, Belinda Butler; one son, Ralph Butler, Jr.; thirteen grandchildren, Terry and Cedrick Almond, Simmie Green, Marcus Baker, Brandon Johnson, Justin and Javon Fabin, William, Kelvin, Latoria, LaKendra, Leah and Alex Butler; three great-grandchildren, Torion Porter, DreA Butler and Mia Hunter; many nieces including special nieces, Clara Stephens and Janice Humes; a special nephew, Willie (Marie) Green; many cousins; two sisters-in-law, Beulah and Rosie Almond; one son-in-law, Kelvin Griffen; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Mary Jackson and family, Dennis Bentley and Judge Terry Clark. Lula will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Lula was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph D. Butler, Sr.; three daughters, Vanessa Baston, Claretha Butler and Willie Mae Green; three brothers, J. C., Tommie and Jimmie Almond; five sisters, Azalee Bledsoe, Zetna Isom, Hattie Oliver, Thelma and Doll Rolling.
