Lula Mae Washington (Lansing)

Ms. Lula Mae Washington passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at the age of 79 years. She was born November 19, 1940 in Woodside, Louisiana to parents Lewis and Julia Washington.

Lula Mae moved to Lansing, Michigan in 1984, where she attended Lansing Community College and received an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. For many years, she was a preschool teacher, dietary aide, and home health aide. Lula May choose careers that suited her servant heart. Her favorite hobbies were sewing and gardening, a pastime she often shared with family and friends. Whether it be sewing clothes and blankets for new grandchildren or making a dish to share, her hands were rarely still, and she always welcomed a loving embrace, both as the giver or the receiver. She was generous, kind, loving, funny, and passionate about spreading the Word of God. For 35 years, Lula May worshiped at Galilee Baptist Church where she oversaw the missionary department, Sunday School, and culinary departments. Her greatest honor was serving as the mother of the church for 22 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Delenis Nelson; children, Rosa Ezell, Willis Humphrey Jr., John ( Jennie Rebecah) Humphrey; grandchildren, Shamon Amos, Atisha Amos, Vershelle Baldwin, Latasha Jones, Jeffrey Ezell, James Ezell, Amy Johnson, Alesia Townsend, John Humphrey Jr., Kayla Humphrey, Terrell Humphrey, Willis Humphrey III, Tykari Humphrey, Dashanae Rhea, Dakylen Marshall; four sisters, Gladys Washington-Marks, Tener Humphrey, Elzener McGee, Alberta (Dan) Washington-Lewis; four brothers, Louis (Allot) Washington, Henry Washington, Alex Washington, Paul Washington; many other relatives and friends including Godchild, Virona Brown.

Lula Mae was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joseph Washington; nephews, Louis Humphrey, Anthony Humphrey; and grandson, Jerome Ezell.
