Lunda Whitley

Mrs. Lunda Whitley, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister went to be with the Lord on October 16, 2009.
Lunda Sue Degrate was born to the late James and Rosezena (Evans) Degrate on December 17, 1954 in Waco, Texas. Linda made her debut to Saginaw in 1971. She graduated from Saginaw High School in 1974. She then attended Saginaw Valley State University where she studied to be a nurse. She married John Frank Whitley on April 2, 1979 and was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.
Linda leaves to cherish her memories her devoted husband of 30 years, John Frank Whitley; her children, Nyambi (James), John Jr., Latisha (Marcus), Tamika, Eliza, Donta Whitley, Trina (Monte) Gibson and Shelton (Alicia) Maclin; thirty-one grandchildren; her siblings, Dorothy Head, Marilyn (Bobby) Whitley, James (Patricia) Degrate and Clarence (Betty) Degrate; one aunt, Alice Mae Chapell of Waco, TX; one uncle, Claude Degrate of Waco, TX; her in-laws, CJ (Sadie), Henry (Sandra), Lester (Dorothy), Willie (Carrie), Charlie Whitley, Sponcia (Robert) Bates, Mary Bates and Gloria Shaw; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special nieces, Elaine Bowen and Angela Whitley; god-mother, Fay Jamerson; god-daughter, Shellie Tullos; her devoted friends, Charlene Harvey, Sabrina Satchell and Verne York-Irwin.
Lunda was predeceased by her parents, James and Rosezena (Evans) Degrate; granddaughter, Myra McGee; two sisters, Rose Degrate and Mary Basey; her mother and father-in-law, Willie and Eliza Whitley; and a special niece.
