Mrs. Maggie Beatrice Strickland Walker passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Rachel's Assisted Foster Care Living Assistance Center in Holt, Michigan, at age 83 years old. She was born on September 27, 1939, in Corner Stone, Arkansas, to the proud parents, Lee and Lucile Strickland. Maggie graduated from Tucker Rosenwald High School. As a student, she was an accomplished basketball player. She was determined to achieve her goals and later moved to the city of Little Rock, Arkansas. It did not take long for Maggie to find a job at Frankie's Cafeteria, where she was known for her made from scratch yeast rolls.
In 1961 Maggie Strickland moved to Lansing, Michigan, and married Herbert L. Jeffries, to this union two children were born, Herbert Steven and Patricia Jeffries.
Maggie worked at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, in the hospitality department for many years before being hired at Fisher Body as an assembly worker. Her supervisors quickly saw her dedicated work ethic and promoted her to paint repair. Maggie was dependable and received numerous Attendance Awards and bonuses. She retired after 25 years of service. She also operated several kiosk gift booths in the Lansing Malls. She enjoyed fishing, walking the mall, and racquetball. Most of all she loved watching her Detroit Pistons Basketball Team.
In the late 70s, Maggie answered the door to Gwen, a Jehovah's Witness field service worker who provided her with the spiritual food and knowledge needed during trying times. Maggie saw the light of the truth and was baptized within six months. She was a devoted servant to Jehovah's word and teaching for over 48 years as a member of Lansing and Holt congregations, respectively.
Mrs. Walker leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 30 years, Carl L. Walker; daughter, Patricia Jeffries (Michael) Hodnett, Dacula Georgia; son, Herbert Steven Jeffries, Lansing Michigan; beloved grandchildren, Tiffani Paige Jeffries, Lansing Michigan, Ashleigh Patrice Jeffries, Flint Michigan, and Vivica Cose, Lansing Michigan; her amazing and intelligent great-granddaughter, Ava Marie Jeffries; sister, Shirley Ann (Will) Adkins, Little Rock, Arkansas; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Lucille Strickland; four brothers, Levern Strickland, John L. Strickland, Andrew Strickland, and Monroe Strickland; two sisters Icerine Hunter, and Jewel Simpson, and former husband, Herbert L. Jeffries.
