Ms. Mammie Ellen Jones peacefully passed on home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the home of her daughter in Conley, Georgia. Mammie was born on July 8, 1933 in Cottonport, Louisiana to Oscar and Gertrude (Dobison) Johnson.
Mammie had been a resident of Saginaw, Michigan since 1953. She was a well-known beautician for over 50 years who touched many lives in her profession. Many will remember going to the beauty shop on Sixth Street for Ms. Mammie to do their hair. Many left out of her chair without paying a dime, especially if she knew that they were in a program or attending someones funeral. She would do the entire female households hair and not charge a dime. Mammie also prided herself on the fact that she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter Joyicle (Albert) Copeland; two grandsons, Donice (Alisa) Alexander and Dustin Alexander; three great-grandchildren, Donice Allen, Noah and Camryn Alexander; three sisters, Eula Mae Hatter, Margaret Johnson and Betty (Ahmed) Hasan; two brothers, Rollin and Collin Johnson; many nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Mammie was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Gertrude Johnson; five brothers, Carlton, Earl, Albert, Austin and Oscar Jr., and former husband, James Frank Jones.
