Manuel Gonzalez (Lansing)

August 26, 1953 — December 21, 2019

Manuel Carlos Gonzalez, born August 26, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan to Carlos Gonzalez & Corine Corbin. “Chico” as he was affectionately called growing up, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 21, 2019.

Manuel attended schools in Detroit, graduating from Cass Tech High School in 1972. He attended Wayne State University and worked for Chrysler and various other companies in Detroit before moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Minneapolis is where he obtained his certification in Electronics. This certification landed him a position in Sales with Dynex Industries, where he worked for 15 years. Minneapolis was good to Manuel because he met the love of his life, Cordelia Marie Hall, there in 1987. Cordelia and Manuel bonded because they were both from Michigan.

Manuel and Cordelia married in 1990 and would have celebrated 30 years of marriage in April 2020. To this union, two beautiful children were born, Miguel Carlos Gonzalez and Samara (Sam) Corrine Gonzalez.

Manuel was offered a promotion at Dynex that moved the family to Aurora, Illinois, where they raised their family. After 18 years in Aurora, they decided to move back home to Michigan to be closer to family.

Manuel was a gentle, easy going, kind hearted and thoughtful man. He did not “sweat the small stuff”, as he would always state. Manuel never complained, even with the struggles of his health. He was loved by all who knew him, especially his family and in-laws.

Being an only child, Manuel was very devoted to his parents, moving them to Illinois so he could look after them. He enjoyed life and was an avid history buff, loved music, especially jazz and enjoyed old movies.

Manuel, was very proud of his Afro Cuban descent, culture and roots, which led him to trace his heritage and roots on Ancestry.com.

Manuel, leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife, Cordelia Hall Gonzalez; son, Miguel Gonzalez, Lansing, Michigan; daughter, Samara Gonzalez, Aurora, Illinois, first cousins, whom he was raised with, Johnny (Shelia) Morrison, Latanya Corbin, Gloria Cosme-Banks, and Velma Matthews; sisters-in-law, Norene (Tracy) Travis, Stephanie Hall, Saginaw, Michigan, Sharron Michelle Hall, Allen Park, Michigan, Barbara (Kenneth) Reynolds, Saginaw, Michigan; brother-in-law, Thelonious Brent (Jackie) Hall, Minneapolis, Minnesota; aunts, Alfrieda Kirksey, Minneapolis Minnesota, Josephine Hall, Washington D.C. and Michael (Edna) Smith, San Francisco, California; nephews & nieces, Sylvester Bandy, Charice (Sebastian) Manley, Sidney Bandy, Shelbi (Phil) White, Chelsea Hall, Charon Reynolds, Jasmine Hall, Bria Hall; many great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends including life-long friends, Ric Coleman, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Juanamarie Harris, Las Vegas, Nevada; his dedicated care givers, Julia Scruggs and his niece, Jasmine Hall.
