Manuel Sheard, Jr.

Mr. Manuel Sheard, Jr. passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Covenant HealthCare-Harrison. Age 93 years. He was born July 30, 1924 in Yazoo, Mississippi to Manuel Sheard, Sr., and Susie Mae Davis Sheard.

Manuel Jr. was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan. He was a member of the Church of Christ prior to moving to Saginaw, and continued that affiliation the duration of his life. Manuel was a Veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Manuel unselfishly devoted thirteen years of his life to military service, receiving an Honorable Discharge on February 6, 1953. He moved to Saginaw in 1957 from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, completed high school and attended vocational school to earn certificates in Shoe and Watch Repair and Electronics. Over the years, Manuel was employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital, U.S. Post Office and General Motors (Chevrolet Grey Iron Foundry) from which he retired. He was a member of UAW Local 668. Manuel worked as a school crossing guard for Saginaw Public Schools after retiring from General Motors. He was loved by the children and their parents. Manuel enjoyed his family, watching movies, Judge Judy, and eating Maple Walnut ice cream. One of his favorite pastimes was listening to the Blues, especially B.B.King. He also enjoyed playing his juke harp and harmonica. Manuel had fun joking around, but he was a man of wisdom and knowledge, and he always shared the Word of God and good advice with others. A beautiful father and provider for his family, Manuel was very caring and concerned about the welfare of others. He will be truly missed by family and friends.

Manuel Sheard Jr. leaves to cherish and continue his legacy ten daughters, Zenobia Sheard White, Kathleen Carter, Saginaw, Michigan, Alma, Gail and Jeantta Sheard, Naples Florida, Gloria (Nick) Jones, Indianapolis, Indiana, Jennifer Sheard, Las Vegas, Nevada, Gwyn Towns, Atlanta, Georgia, Madeline (Andrew) Lovings, Jacksonville, Florida, Alberta (Joe) Burton, Lehi, Florida; nine sons, Manuel Sheard, III and Don Sheard, Saginaw, Michigan; Lynn, Canary, Princeton, Solomon and Patrick Sheard, all of Naples, Florida, Andrew Sheard, Lehi, Florida, and Justin Sheard, Saginaw, Michigan; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Polk, Chicago, Illinois and Cindy Sheard, Virginia; two brothers, William Hendrix, Tampa, Florida and Kinch Pepper, Jackson, Mississippi; two sisters-in-law, Mary and Lee Sheard; many other relatives and friends.

Manuel Jr. was preceded in death by his wife, Esther C. Mockabee Sheard; mother and father, Manuel and Susie Mae Sheard; sister, Minnie Sheard; brothers, Clark McClinton, Solomon, Billy and David Sheard.
