Margaret Phillips

June 30, 1944 — February 13, 2019

Margaret Jean Phillips was born June 30, 1944 in Batesville, Mississippi to Earnest and Rosie Lee Phillips. She peacefully transitioned on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at the age of 74 years.

Margaret accepted Christ at an early age and she never lost her love for God. She was a dedicated member of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Otis Washington.

Margaret was employed as a teacher’s aide for many years in addition to spending some time working at Vlasic Pickle Factory. She most enjoyed doing home care for the elderly. This job was dear to her because she saw it more as ministry than as a job. Margaret was patient, kind, compassionate and caring, all necessary traits to be an exceptional caregiver.

Though she had many hobbies, she loved playing cards with family and friends, taking long walks in the neighborhood, and visiting and socializing at family dinners. She adored her family and looked forward to long visits with her son and grandchildren in Indiana. She will be missed but her wit, wisdom and sense of humor will forever be etched in our hearts.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest Phillips and Rosie Lee Washington; daughter, Regina Hervey; brother, Earnest Phillips, Jr.; nephews, Jerry and Terry McGhee; uncle, Willie Brown; brother-in-law, Robert George.

She leaves to celebrate her life two sons, Michael Phillips (Sheryl), Prentis Phillips (Tashia); grandchildren, Koya Hervey, Shadell Jones, Rashab Price, Preston, Payton, Priya, Prentis Jr., Priscilla Phillips, K’leigh Robinson, Carrington Robinson; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Barnett, La’Kennedi Jones; sisters, Rosie Cotton, Bobby (Willie) Haynes, Shirley George; brothers, Check (Vera) McGhee, William (Kristi), Larry (Fonda), Harry Phillips; aunt, Margaret Brown; cousins, Dorothy Baston, Herman Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including special friends, Earlene Haynes, Denise Wilburn, Esther "Sadie" Steward, and brother-in-law Willie Haynes.

The family would like to express special thanks to Messiah Missionary Baptist Church, New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
