Mr. Mark Anthony Brown passed away quietly in his home on Monday, November 9, 2020. Age 51 years. He was born in Lansing, Michigan on March 20, 1969 to Alice E. Brown and Yancy Bradford Jr.
Growing up Mark attended Trinity A.M.E. Church, where he was a member of the Angel Choir and the YPD; he was also an Acolyte. He participated in Vacation Bible School and many other church functions.
Mark attended East Lansing School and earned his High School Diploma from Haslett High School. He earned an Associated Degree from Lansing Community College. During his time at LCC he served as President of Student Government.
Mark was never one to sit still and not do anything, he was always looking to better others as well as himself.
In April 1999, he decided to be baptized a second time, showing all that Jesus Christ was truly his Lord and Savior. From there Mark became Minister of Servants for Christ Ministries, sharing his joy for the Lord with others, bringing them peace and salvation.
Mark was an entrepreneur. In 2012, he became the owner of Browford Industries and Michigan Workforce Development Academy, he continued the companies until 2015, when his health began to slow him down.
Mark was a member of many different organizations, a few close to his heart were the NAACP – where he served as 3rd Vice President, Lansing Indivisible, Voters not Politicians, Citizens for Prison Reform, Family Advisory Board for Michigan Department of Corrections and the Mayor’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board, where he was a charter member.
Mark was a man of great faith, he was uplifting and joyful, full of life and loved his family. He will truly be missed.
Left to cherish the memories of his life are his children, Sovran M. X. Brown of Haslett, Michigan, Kristianna I. Martin of Lansing, Michigan, Morgan D. Schartzer of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Josephine Harrow of Bannister, Michigan; grandchildren, Hunni and Legend Muriel and Sovai Brown; mother, Alice E. Brown; sisters, Tamethia Bradford, Erika Demyers, Katina Hill-Webster, Armese Woods, Renee Howell and Melissa Simmons; brothers, Yancy Bradford III, Marcus Bradford, Jerrell and Joel Green; aunt, Barbara Gladney; uncles, Matthew Dean (Daisy) Brown of Utica, New York, Duane M. Sr. (Bonnie), Richard Gaylord Sr. and Luther William Sr. of Lansing, Michigan; goddaughter, Vanessa Banner of Lansing, Michigan; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including special friends, the mother of his children, Tabitha Martin, Melanie Whelan, Jessica Trost, Lou Garcia, Sheretha Speed, and special friend and sister, Melissa Simmons.
He was preceded in death by his father, Yancy Bradford Jr.; maternal grandparents, Robert Sr. and Georgia L. Brown; Godparents, Robert Jr and Joy G. Brown.
