Mark Maxwell (Lansing & Canton)

Mr. Mark Maxwell passed away Friday, March 10, 2023, in Canton, Michigan. Age 65 years. He was born April 1, 1957, in Lansing, Michigan. The son of Carol Ann Douglas-Caruss and Phillip Caruss, Sr.

Mark enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his kids and grandkids. Mark had forty years of sobriety and was an avid member of the Alano Club. He prided himself on his love for his kids and grandkids, as well as his sobriety. Mark’s circle were members of the AA fellowship and all he cared to do every minute of his time was apply principles of the AA and help others. He has never been more grateful to those who reciprocate the love. In bowling, always a good team position, patience, and accuracy, that won him many awards. Above all else, Mark was most proud of family and loved to talk about it. His last fishing trip was recently with his friend Dave Carter. That trip really made him so happy.

Mark leaves to cherish his memory children, Lori James, Susan (Nate) Reed, Dale Lambert, Dakota Hawks, and Kitsie Maxwell; grandchildren, Damien (Gloria) James, Ellie’Anna James, Liana Reed, Nora Reed, Myra Reed, and Otis Reed; grandparents, Kitsie Marie Douglas and L.E. Douglas; sister, Charlene Adamski, brother, Ronnie Bywater; nephews, Phillip Caruss of Dewitt, Michigan, Marc (Janel) Hile of Owosso, Michigan, and Adam McCauley of Lansing, Michigan; aunt, Mary Lou Ariss; thirty-four cousins; and many other relatives and friends including, Dave Carter, Melinda Lambert, and Rita Maxwell.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Weston Mattingly; parents, Carol Ann Douglas-Caruss and Phillip Caruss, Sr.; grandparents; aunts, Kitsie Douglas, Virginia Andress, and Barbara Konen; uncles, William Douglas, Reaves Douglas, and Sony Douglas; and three aunts.
