Ms. Martha DeShazer passed away Thursday, January 13, 2011. Age 95 years. She was born June 27, 1915 in Yazoo County, Mississippi to Lucasin Rushing and Ora Jones.
Martha was a member of Mt Calvary Church of Niles, Michigan for over 40 years. She moved to Niles, Michigan after having lived in the south for more than 40 years. She was employed as a cook, domestic worker and a nurses aide. She retired from Paul
Stephen Nursing home in 1977.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children Jessie Garner, Niles, Michigan, Charles Tucker, Phoenix, Arizona; step-child, Anzie DeShazer; niece, Dorisean Key, Blythe, California; nephew, Ricky Reed, Houston, Texas; thirty-nine grandchildren; many other relatives and friends, including cousins, Nora Hollis, Lee Rushing, Yazoo City, Mississippi, James Logan (Bubba), Goldsboro, North Carolina. The family would like to express a special thanks to Jerry Broyles.
Martha was preceded in death by her spouse, Herman DeShazer; children, Mattie Moore, Mary Gearlds, Lucasin Miller, step-daughter, Ethal May DeShazer; parents, Lucasin Rushing and Ora Jones; twin sister, Mary Rushing, sister, Olean Simmons and brother, Frank Rushing.
