On Monday, March 12, 2018, Marva Ann Harris, nickname "T" was welcomed to rest at her home in Heaven at the age of 76 where she was told "well done, my good and faithful servant".
Born on October 1, 1941 in Laurel, Mississippi, Marva earned her bachelor's degree from Alcorn State University, where she joined the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She later went on to earn a master's degree from Michigan State University. She married Moses Harris, Jr. nearly 50 years ago on November 29, 1968 and had two sons, Moses and Joseph. Marva valued the importance of a good education and spent 43 years as a teacher, approximately 30 of which were with the Lansing School District. She retired from Gardner Middle School where she taught history, social studies, and government.
In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and educator, Marva had an infectious laugh that would instantly light up a room. She enjoyed serving the Lord through various volunteer roles in her church, loved to sew, was a thoughtful and challenging opponent in a game of Scrabble, and for many years, always had a bottle of Pepsi nearby.
Along with her husband, children, and three grandchildren; Arianna, Arva, and Abriela, Marva is also survived by seven brothers and sisters, devoted cousins Joseph and Lois Moody, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Welcoming her in Heaven are her mother, Leona Thompson; father, Norman Jones; and step-mother, Theola Jones, and as of Wednesday, March 14, 2018, her special friend and sorority sister, Helen Pointer.
