Marvin Gene Wilkins, Sr.

Mr. Marvin Gene Wilkins, Sr. passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at his residence in Pontiac, Michigan. Age 67 years. He was born on December 12, 1950 in Memphis, Tennessee to Joseph Wilkins and Mary H. Wilkins Turner.

Marvin graduated from Baker College June 8, 2013 at the age of 62 ½ with a degree for Clerical Bookkeeping. He was so proud of his accomplishment. His family and friends were proud of him also and celebrated his accomplishment with him. Marvin was a true believer in the Lord and read his Bible daily. He enjoyed playing chess. Marvin especially loved music and playing his keyboard, which he taught himself to play. He enjoyed going to the park and would drive to anyplace immediately where there was a need. If anybody was going to show up, it was Marvin. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He leaves to cherish loving memories three daughters, Valerie Henderson, Meta M. Wilkins, and Mela L. Wilkins; three sons, Marvin G. Wilkins, Jr., Marlon M. Wilkins, and Myron D. Wilkins; seventeen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; his mother, Mary H. Wilkins Turner; four sisters, Glenda (Dennis) Donald, Helen Jean (Steve) Osmond, Demetra Ann Wilkins, and Marilyn (Mack) Blair; three brothers, David Wilkins, Anthony (Kay) Wilkins, and Ronald Wilkins Cottrell; one aunt, Cora L. Triplett, Bay City, Michigan; one uncle, Laymon (Margaretta) Wilkins, Bay City, Michigan; a host of cousins; many other relatives and friends, including special friend, his dearly beloved fiancée’, Janet Smith, her daughter, Latoya Smith, and six grandchildren.

Marvin was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Wilkins; his wife, Mary Louise Boatman Wilkins; three brothers, James Earl Wilkins, Rance Rickey Wilkins, and Allen Matthews Wilkins; one sister, Charlott (Polly) Burgen,; a host of uncles and aunts and other relatives.

The family would like to express special thanks to Cousin Jessie Dawkins for all you have done for Marvin and the family; to Janet Smith for standing by Marvin’s side through good health and through his sickness; for being his strength when he was weak and his friend in times of need, day or night. Thank You!
